S Roadshow at Schloss Hernstein: DB12 S, Vantage S and DBX S compared
Following the Valhalla driving experience, Aston Martin Vienna returned to Schloss Hernstein with another format. The S Roadshow put the spotlight on the three models that currently represent the brand's sharpest chapter: DB12 S, Vantage S and DBX S.
Three characters, one letter
At Aston Martin, the S has stood for heightened dynamics since the DB3S of 1953. On the current models, the package covers not only additional power but also revisions to chassis, brakes, aerodynamics and calibration.
The DB12 S is the super tourer of the family. Its 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 produces 700 hp and 800 Nm, accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and reaches 325 km/h. Standard carbon ceramic brakes save 27 kg of unsprung mass, complemented by revised Bilstein DTX dampers and a recalibrated electronic rear differential.
The Vantage S is the most uncompromising sports car of the group. Its 4.0 litre V8 delivers 680 hp and 800 Nm, visually sharpened by hood louvres and a full width rear spoiler.
The DBX S, with 727 hp and 900 Nm, is the most powerful combustion engined SUV available. Its turbochargers are derived from the Valhalla programme, the sprint to 100 km/h takes 3.3 seconds and top speed is 310 km/h.
Testing under real conditions
At the roadshow, selected clients had the opportunity to drive all three cars on the roads around Schloss Hernstein and compare them directly. That is precisely the value of a format like this: the difference between a super tourer, a front engined sports car and a performance SUV can be described on a spec sheet, but it is only understood from behind the wheel.
